Paintings of the Uprising
The Art Gallery brings together more than two centuries of visual response to the First War of Independence. Period sketches by colonial artists sit alongside post-Independence oil paintings and contemporary tributes by Indian masters, charting how memory of the uprising has been re-imagined across generations.
Curated thematic walls trace the geography of the revolt — from the cantonment streets of Ambala and Meerut to the river ghats of Kanpur and the walled lanes of Delhi — letting the visitor read the war through landscape, portraiture and allegory.
