Where the Spark First Caught
Long before Meerut became the popular symbol of the revolt, soldiers of the Ambala cantonment refused to use the new Enfield cartridges. This gallery recovers that early, often-overlooked story through archival documents, regimental records and oral histories.
Period photographs of the cantonment, the Sadar Bazaar and the European cemetery sit alongside re-created barracks interiors, anchoring the visitor in the streetscape of mid-19th-century Ambala.
