Ballads of the Revolt
Before the textbooks, there were the songs. Long after the cannons fell silent, the memory of 1857 survived in the folk songs of Awadh, the marching ballads of Bundelkhand, the qawwalis of Delhi and the laments sung at village wells across northern India.
This listening gallery gathers those songs in a curated audio archive, paired with translations, sheet music and recorded interviews with the singers and scholars who have kept the tradition alive.
