Arms of the Uprising

Weapons Gallery feature

The Weapons Gallery presents the arms that shaped 1857, including the controversial Enfield Pattern 1853 rifle whose greased cartridges helped ignite the revolt. Talwars, matchlocks, jezails and field artillery are displayed alongside.

The curation is deliberately historical rather than triumphal: each object is contextualised within the soldier's life and the wider story of the war.
